DSU Election Results have been announced. Victoria Raimes reports...
The results of the DSU elections are in – and Andrew Welch has been crowned the new DSU president.
Welch, of Van Mildert college, beat his opponent, Mary Dobson, by 1483 to 1248 votes, with a further 145 votes declaring a wish to re-open nominations. The result was released on February 23 at 19.44 hours - a few days later than expected after a damaged cable brought down the online voting system on February 20.
According to Welch's manifesto, his aims for the next academic year include campaigning for increased library access, securing more reasonable rent prices and liaising more frequently with JCR positions.
He cites past relevant experience to include the positions he held as DSU Senior Rep, DSU Education Officer and NUS delegation leader.
Welch succeeds current DSU president Flo Herbert. He will officially take over the position in October 2008.
